Slavonia – the land of plains, wine, and tradition

Slavonia is a region in eastern Croatia, famous for its endless plains, rich cultural heritage, and top-quality wines. The hospitality of its people, authentic cuisine, and preserved nature make it a special destination for travelers seeking a genuine Croatian experience.

  • Osijek – The largest city in eastern Croatia, situated on the banks of the Drava River, known for Tvrđa – its baroque old town, the riverside promenade, and its vibrant cultural scene.
  • Đakovo – The city of the cathedral and horses. The imposing St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Đakovo Lipizzaner Stud Farm make it a must-visit destination.
  • Vukovar – A city on the Danube, a symbol of Croatian unity and sacrifice, but also a place of rich culture, museums, and the impressive Water Tower – the city’s symbol. With its baroque heritage and the Vučedol Culture Museum – one of Croatia’s most attractive museums – visitors can discover how the Vučedol people lived in the Eneolithic period.
  • Baranja – Nestled between the Drava and the Danube, famous for Kopački Rit – one of the largest wetlands in Europe, ideal for nature and bird lovers. Baranja is also a gastronomic paradise, renowned for its famous fish stew (fiš paprikaš) and wines from local cellars.
  • Ilok – The easternmost town in Croatia, located on the slopes of Fruška Gora, is a true wine jewel. Ilok is home to some of Croatia’s most renowned wines, such as Traminac, as well as to magnificent historical landmarks like the Odescalchi Castle.

Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem together offer a harmony of natural beauty, tradition, and superb wine and gastronomy – a destination that will win every visitor over with its warmth and authenticity.
